RIVER DISASTER
1500 CHINESE KILLED VESSEL STRIKES MINE HONGKONG, Nov. 9 Fifteen hundred Chinese have lost their lives in the worst disaster in the history of Canton River shipping. A crowded vessel, Chinese-owned, struck a mine about 70 miles west of Hongkong. There were nearly 2000 Chinese troops on board, most of whom were below decks when the mine was hit. The only three Chinese women on board were saved, and the Norwegian captain was also rescued.
