INCREASE SOUGHT
FERTILISER RATION MORRINSVILLE FARMERS’ VIEWS MORRINSVILLE, Monday A resolution asking for an increase in the fertiliser ration and expressing concern at the present allocation was unanimously carried at the annual meeting of the Morrinsville Co-oper-ative Dairy Company, today. The mover of the resolution, Mr R. T. Scott, said that dairy farmers had received a shock on learning of the new ration for the season. More production was needed and if farmers were given encouragement in the way of increased fertiliser they could produce more food stuffs. Another resolution asked for an increase of 3d a lb for pig meat to cover increased costs of production. Mr A. G. Alexander said that if farmers had the marketing of pig meats themselves they would be getting more than the 3d a lb increase they were now asking for. They should press the Government for an increase until prices were on a level with those of other countries. Pig production was falling in New Zealand but rising rapidly in other countries where prices were higher. The following resolution was also carried unanimously: “That in view of the fact that the dairy farmers are tired of decimals, so-called subsidies and allowances, and in view of the fact that there has been a complete departure from the basis of stabilisation as laid down in December. 1942, shareholders of the Morrinsville Co-operative Dairy Company request their directors to press with the utmost vigour for a complete review of the basic guaranteed price in order that dairy farmers may receive a price adequate to cover costs and yield a reasonable profit.”
