DEATH OF MINER

EVIDENCE AT INQUEST That deceased met his death at the McDonald mine on May 2, 1945, and that the cause was a fracture of the skull received through being struck by a fall of coal was the verdict at an inquest held at Huntly yesterday into the death of Mr Matthew Robinson. The coroner was Mr C. Hay-Chapman. Mr Lindsay Robinson, a brother of deceased, said that the part of the mine where he and deceased were working was properly timbered up to the lip. Both men were on each side of a small wagon filling it, when witness heard a fall. He managed to get out of the way, but his brother was caught under the coal. The coal fell from an open part of the roof of the mine, which was 18 feet high at the place where the accident happened.
