YEAR’S WORK REVIEWED The annual meeting of the Huntly subcentre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society was held lecently in the V.A.D. rooms. The president and secretary, respectively, submitted the annual report and statement of receipts and expenses. The sewing circle had been very active during th year and nearly 500 articles had been made and forwarded to the Waikato Centre as well as 28 joint council articles and several parcels of reconditioned clothing for refugee use. The members of the Renown Women’s Institute had given great assistance. Hospital trains had been met and comforts, cigarettes and fruit distributed. Parcels had been given to each local returned man, and had also been forwarded to all local men in hospital overseas. In co-operation with the Returned Services Association and St. John Ambulance Brigade members held a drive to raise funds for the Sick and
Wounded in the All Purposes Appeal. While the sub-centre was engaged in »his appeal it was impossible to undertake any drive for its own funds. In connection with junior Red Cross activities there are six circles in the district with a total membership of approximately 180 All are doing good work making knitted garments animals and scrap books for distribution among refugees and crippled children. Clothing shoes and quilts have been sent to the Polish camp. A donation of £2O was sent to the Vitamin D Fund Officers elected for the ensuing year were as follows:—Patroness. Mrs G.
