BOROUGH CHARGES COMPARED It was shown at a meeting or the Hamilton Borough Council on Wednesday night that prediction that the altered basis or charging Tor metered hot water supply was costing the consumer more had been proved unfounded. Mr I. Webster, borough electrical engineer. reporting on the metering or water heaters and reduction or domestic charges, said the change-over had effected a considerable reduction in units used. The change was made between November. 1943. and February, 194 4, and he quoted the periods April l to September 30, 1943, and Tor the same period in 1941. In 19 13 revenue from domestic use. of electricity was £11,217 Os lid, and waterheating revenue was £5132 9s 1 id, giving a total of £19.349 10s tod. In 1944 the same period yielded £12,519 3s 4d from domestic consumption and £4 449 15s 7d rrom water heating; total, £16.968 19s. The total domestic units used, Including water heating, was 4,916,796 Tor the 1943 period and 4,307,483 for the 1944 period. The reduction was 609,313. On the revenue side there was a drop of 12.3 per cent and on units 12.4 per" cent. Mr Webster said that despite the increase in consumers by 2 6 domestic and 20 water heaters, the figures indicated a saving. On March 31, 1944, the total or consumers was 4686, so that the average saving to each consumer was 10s 2d over the period from April 1 to September 30, 1944.
