RECORD SHOW ENTRIES

WAIKATO ASSOCIATION EVENT EXHIBITORS’ FINE RESPONSE The Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s summer show, at Claudelands on Friday and Saturday next, promises to be a greater exhibition than ever before, for in some sections New Zealand records have been created. So large are the entries that the association’s executive has had to send out a hurry call to members urging them to assist at a working bee on Wednesday, to erect more accommodation for the stock. The cattle pavilion will be full to overflowing, and extra pens will have to be erected. The bacon pig competition has exceeded all expectations, for 300 entries came to hand, representing 600 pigs easily a Dominion record. The whole entry in the cattle sections is definitely a record for the Waikato show, and it is claimed to be also a record for New Zealand.

Tremendous entries have also been received in the horse and pony sections. Some classes have filled so well that one executive member commented there were enough horses in the one class to make a really good show in itself. Entries have come from all over the Waikato, and some from as far north as Whangarei, as far south as Palmerston North, and as far east as Katikati. The entries, compared with the figures for the last Royal Show whioh are shown in parentheses, are: Fat cattle, 66 (104): pedigree beef, 12 (81): dairy breeds, milking Shorthorn 81 (54), Ayrshires 152 (103), Friesians 99 (103), Jerseys 329 (136); pedigree pigs, 92 (239); pen fat pigs, 300 (104); draughts, 45 (129); hack hunters and ponies, 1075 (902); stud sheep, 185 (362); children’s calves, 531 (294). There are 34 entries in the Dominion jumping competition if £75, and 37 in the Dominion pony hunter competition of £4O.
