PAEROA RACES

TUTERE’S SPRINT SUCCESS

LORD LUCK SCORES AGAIN The success of Billy Peach, who beat Air Port narrowly in the Poland Cup, and that of Tutere in the open sprint were features of Saturday’s spring meeting of the Ohmemuri Jockey Club at Paeroa on Saturday when ideal weather conditions attracted a large attendance. The going was improved on the previous Saturday. Night Comedy won at his First attempt over hurdles and Rival ran up to his form of opening day when he took crosscountry honours from Waiwainui. Threequarters length; head. Time 1.14. Winner trained by J. H. Dufty, Thames. COMMENT ON RUNNING Rival was at little better than even money odds to win the Maramarua and the issue was never in doubt after he took the initiative along the back the last time. Bisquit. who gave a polished exhibition up till the stage when he was headed by Rival faded right out in the final half-mile. Resingold ran off at the first fence and Bis uit took up the running passing the stands the first time from Chain Acre, who lost his rider at the completion of a round. Racing past the stand the last time there was little between Bisquit and Rival and here Sir Isaacs. New Battle, Waiwainui and Show Day were in that order. Sir Isaacs was puiled up along the back and Rival was clear into the straight from Waiwainui. with five lengths to Bisquit. who was dropping back, and New Battle. Nothing had a chance with Rival at the end and he won easily by three lengths from Waiwainui with another five lengths to New Battle. Bisquit was fourth. Powys attempted to emulate his success of the previous week by winning from end to end but after being some three lengths clear at the home turn he was headed by both Tutere and Gaymeer 150 yards off the post and in a spectacular finish the former got the verdict by a short neck from Gaymeer with Powys half a length away. Powys jumped out smartly to be followed in the first furlong by Tutere. Gaymeer, Radiant Vaals, Rara Avis. Exeter and Te Hinemoa. There was no change across the top, Powys showing the way to the turn three lengths clear of Tutere, Exeter and Gaymeer, Radiant Vaals and Te Hinemoa. In a good finish Tutere won by a short neck from Gaymeer with Powys, beaten into third, half a length away. Rara Avis beat the others home.

Lord Luck was the public choice in a good betting race in the Kerepeehi Hack and he never left the issue in doubt after hitting the front at the outset and holding Bournemouth to three-quarters of a length margin at the judge. Grey Salute received a slight check when sandwiched between Lord Luck and Bournemouth at the distance but it was only a minor one which did not appear to affect the result. Lord Luck led early from Recipient. Our Joy and Bournemouth. He was followed at the three by Our Joy and this pair led at the home turn from Grey Salute, Bournemouth, Diamond King. Pink Shell and Tavernside. Shaking off the challenges of Bournemouth and Grey Salute, Lord Luck won by three-quarters of a length from Bournemouth with Grey Salute only a head away. Our Joy was fourth. Totalisator Increase The totalisator handled £60,764 compared with £43,592 last year, an increase of £17,172.
