LIGHTS TURNED UP

FLYING BOMB ATTACKS LONDON, Sept. 18 Londoners taking advantage of the relaxed blackout regulations operating for the first time yesterday had hastily to replace their opaque curtains when the London area had an alert. Soon after darkness fell two flying bombs which crossed the east coast dropped in Southern England. The all-clear sounded a few minutes later.

Crowds gathered in Leicester, Newcastle, Birmingham and othercities to see the modified lighting turned on. Many young children who had never seen street lights were brought out for the occasion.
