£479,380 IN DISTRICT HAMILTON INVESTS £176,109 A further £15,844 2s 2d was invested in the Victory Loan on Saturday throughout the Waikato-King Country area, bringing total subscriptions to £479,380 6s Id, of which amount Hamilton has subscribed £176,109 8s 2d, representing 29 per cent of its individual objective, £597,150. Over the whole district the amount invested to date is 26 per cent of the target of £1,895,000. The loan is now in its fourth week, this week to be Air Force Week. The Engineers’ Union at Hamilton has decided to invest £IOO in the loan. It was further decided that the members of the union be circularised and that all workers be called on to support the loan. H. Melrose, chairman of the district war loan committee, said to-day that the target should present no great difficulty when the amount was spread over the whole district. “Only two weeks and five days remain of the period of the loan appeal," he said, stressing the point that people away from the fighting fronts had the easiest part of the war effort. “Air toe have to do is to purchase bonds,” he said. Mr Melrose mentioned Mount Olympus, Thermopylae, Piraeus, Merseh Matruh, El Alamein, Sidi Baresh, Takhrouna Heights, Cassino and Florence as names to conjure with and inspire the people at home to provide funds. “All our other services are on the same high plane,” he said. “The Air Force, the Navy and the Merchant Service have achieved their objectives whenever set the task.” MAORIS RAISE £20,000 Special .drives conducted by the Maori War Effort Organisation for the Victory Loan had resulted in Maori organisations in the North Island subscribing about £20,000 up to last Friday.
