TIMBER FIRM’S YEAR
BARTHOLOMEW COMPANY A net profit of £3053 19s 7d for the year ended July 31 is disclosed in the report of the Bartholomew Land and Timber Company, Limited, Hamilton, to be presented at the annual meeting on September 28. The balance brought forward from last year was £sOll. An interim dividend of 2£ per cent was paid in April and the directors recommend a final dividend of 24 per cent to absorb £1250, making 5 per cent for the year. In addition, they propose a bonus payment of £SOO, leaving to be carried forward a balance of £5065. Profit earned by the subsidiary company is not included in these accounts.
The report states that although the company’s mill has worked to capactivity during the year, there is still an urgent demand for timber. Millers are doing everything possible, with the manpower available, to meet these requirements. In view of the extreme shortage of houses, this demand is likely to continue for some time. The company’s fixed assets are in good order, but as soon as labour and materials are available delayed maintenance and repairs will have to be undertaken. The director to retire by rotation is Mr J. A. Gentles, who offers himself for re-election.
Children’s Fancy Dress Ball Hundreds of children are expected to attend the children’s fancy dress ball to be held in the Frankton Town Hall on Friday. Dancing for the children will be conducted from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., after which hour adults will take the floor tmtil midnight. Good prizes for the best children’s fancy costumes will be awarded.
