SERIOUS CHARGES

SUBVERSIVE STATEMENT HAMILTON MAN ON TRIAL (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WANGANUI, Monday. The trial of Royle Richard Victor Challiner, aged 46, public accountant, of Hamilton, on four charges of publishing a subversive statement began this morning in the Supreme Court, Wanganui, before Mr Justice Smith and jury. The charges against Chalall relate t.o the publication of cyclo-styled copie of a circular. Ine charges were brought under the Public Safety Emergency Regulations, 1940. Mr N. R. Bain, Crown Prosecutor, Wanganui, appeared for the Crown and Mr J. F. Strang, of Hamilton, for the accused, who pleaded not guilty to all charges. The Crown stood aside two jurors and the defence challenged three.
