REHABILITATION AIMS

WAIKATO COMMITTEE’S WORK At the request of members at the annual meeting of the Waikato Returned Services Association Mr T. G. Reynolds, chairman of the Waikato Rehabilitation Committee, gave an outline of what was done by that organisation. The local committee, he said, was a good team of conscientious members, trying to obtain “a fair spin” for servicemen. The authority conferred on committees was not as great as could be desired, continued Mr Reynolds, but had considerably improved during the last 12 months. Originally the affairs were run by the Rehabilitation Board, with the National Service Department as the secretariat and the State Advances Corporation as the lending authority Today the Rehabilitation Board had enlarged its powers until it was now conducting its own affairs separately. The State Advances Corporation, while it had representatives on the Loans Board in Wellington, left the vital decisions of eligibility and suitability to the Rehabilitation Board.

Mr Reynolds, in conclusion, urged servicemen and others, to inquire first before expressing criticism about the rehabilitation scheme. Co-opera-tion among all members of the services would be necessary after the war in the tremendous task of putting the world right again.
