RETURN TO DOMINION

PARTY OF SERVICEMEN (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday. Although comparatively small in number, the latest draft of servicemen to return to New Zealand represents a wide field of action. The naval men have returned to New Zealand on leave after considerable service abroad. Among the soldiers were some men who had been taken prisoner and subsequently escaped from the enemy. In the case of at least one of them the process of getting back to the New Zealand Division was a long one. He succeesed in linking up with the Greeks and carried on with the fight by joining guerillas, with whom he found plenty of thrilling action during the period in which he was posted “missing.”

A number of the returned sailors have served in the Home Fleet and one took part in the action against the Bismarck.

Among members of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force who recently returned to New Zealand are—

Private R. Rainey (Morrinsville), Lance-Sergeant B. G. Hammond ( Cambridge).
