TONIGHT’S PROGRAMMES
ROXY THr.A'IRE I “Th 3 Big Blockade" with an all-star ' I cast headed by Leslie Banks and Frank Cellier. will head the new programme, j "The Old Homestead." a sparkling musical comedy, will also be screened. "The Big Blockade" is a hrilling drama, with tense situations and plenty of action, i and holds the close interest of the audience. "The Old Homestead" is spark- 1 ling entertainment, featuring Dick Purcell ' and the Weaver brothers. CIVIC THEATRE "Thunderbirds" is impressing large audiences with its thrilling air scenes and its dramatic romance. Tre spectacular i eflect is heightened by the fact that the film is in technicolour. Preston Foster. Gene Tierney (looking Very lovely in technicolour) and John Sutton are the principals in a three-cornered romance that works up to a dramatic climax. There are some interesting and entertaining j short fubjects. REGENT THEATRE ‘‘Star-spangled Rhythm” is a bright j production featuring Bing Crosby, Bob ; Hope, Ray Milland, Fred Mac Murray, Paulette Goddard, Vera Zorina, Veronica , Lake, Franchot Tone, Dorothy Ldmour, j Victor Moore, Mary Martin, Dick Powell, j Alan Ladd, Rochester and Walter Abel. The new programme on Friday will be headed by "Bataan," featuring Robert Taylor and Gecrrge Murphy. STATE THEATRE ‘‘Jungle Cavalcade” is a thrilling story of Frank Buck’s expedition into the wilds of Africa, showing wild animals in their natural state and their primitive struggle for existence. There is excitement in every foot of the film. “Roxie Hart” is an American comedy, with Ginger Rogers heading the cast. Many of the scenes have a prison setting, but the theme is roliicking humour, and Ginger Rogers’ romantic adventures keep the audience in hilarious mood. THEATRE ROYAL A feature of this evening's performance will be the appearance of George Wilson, a Scottish tenor, with Mr W. Whitehead as accompanist. He will sing French and Italian arias, English. Scottish and Irish songs, and (by special request) the Indian Love Lyrics. The film programme will include the appealing “Sm'lin’ Through,” featuring Jeanette MacDonald, Brian Aherne, Gene Raymond and lan Hunter. The film is in beautiful technicolour. !
