TONIGHT’S PROGRAMMES ROXY THEATRE “The Great Lie" is a very powerful i story, with Eette Davis giving a fine performance in the leading role, supported by George Brent and Mary Astor. With its tense situations and interesting dialogue the film holds the close interest of the audience as it mounts to a thrilling climax. “Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weacon" is another exciting adventure of the popular character of fiction, stage and THEATRE ROYAL “Sailors on Leave” combines romance, comedy and drama, and fulfils the promise of its title. William Lundigan and Shirley Ross have the leading roles. Robert Page, Vera Vague. Grace McDonald and Maureen Cannon are the principals in “Get Going,” a sparkling musical comedy filled with fun and tuneful melodies. The serial. “Perils of Nyoko,” has reached a very exciting stage, and the ninth chapter is more thrilling than ever. REGENT THEATRE “Hit The Ice” is a rollicking comedy in which Lou Costello and Budd Abbott appear as candid camera photographers who find themselves implicated in a bank robbery. Possessing negatives which identify the robbers, they are chased by the criminals and eventually captured in a mountain resort hideout. This is where much of the exciting action is enacted and the ultimate “table-turning” is spectacular as well as comical. STATE THEATRE Plenty of excitement is provided in the new programme that opens tonight. “Suspicion” is a stirring drama that proves the evil that may be wrought by suspicion. Cary Grant and Joan Fontaine have the romantic leads, with Sir Cedric Hardwick, Nigel Bruce and Dame Mary Whitty prominently in support. “The Leopard Man” is another exciting drama, i featuring Dennis O’Keefe and Marg9- | A chapter of “The Green Archer" is also screened. CIVIC THEATRE 1 “Bombardier.” featuring Pat O’Brien, i Ann Shirley, Randolph Scott and Eddie I Albert, will be screened today. “Bombard- ' ier” presents the fascinating story of the Norden bomb sight and the men who made its amazing performance possible. Pat O’Brien and Randolph Scott are coi starred in the film, which traces the dei velopment of the famous instrument and ! the training methods used to teach thousj ands of students its secret operation.
