WAR PAINTINGS EXHIBITION Many favourable opinions have [ been expressed by visitors to the ex- j hibition of war paintings and photo- j graphs by Captain Peter Mclntyre, official war artist with the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force in the Middle East, which is being held in Toorak Hall. -Some of the most interested, and perhaps the most critical spectators because of their first-hand knowledge of the scenes and episodes depicted, have been returned soldiers, who say that the atmosphere of the desert is well produced. One painting that has attracted considerable attention is the portrait of King George of Greece, autographed by the King himself. Visitors yesterday totalled 373. and receipts amounted to £l7 9s 9d The exhibition will conclude tonight.
Drinking Troughs for Cattle Matamata County Councillors yesterday were discussing the provision of supplies of water for stock being driven to saleyards. One councillor condemned a suggestion that each l saleyards should have installed ade--1 quate troughs, saying: “That’s no use. The troughs are always full of dogs.”
