TYPHUS IN NAPLES
SERIOUS THREAT TO CITY (Received Jan. 14, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON. Jan. 13 A typhus epidemic in Naples is ' raging 50 times stronger than that of last October, says an announcement from the United States Army Head- ! quarters in the Middle East. | Brigadier-General Leon Fox, Director of the United States Typhus Commission, who has just returned to Cairo from Italy, said: “Naples is seriously threatened and the menace i can be expected in southern Italy, j No cases are yet reported among the military forces, but the growing I typhus rate is a potential menace to | the Allied military effort. The | authorities are daily treating over ;' 30,000 Italians with anti-vermin ; powders. Medical flying squads are i ready to go to outlying districts if lithe epidemic spreads.”
