NEW COMPLAINT
MINERS NOT WORKING RESUMPTION TOMORROW (By Telegraph.—Press Association) GREYMOUTH, Thursday Despite last evening’s decision to resume work today at all mines, only Dobson and Blackball were working this morning. The Liverpool and Strongman miners declined work owing to the paysheets not being available at mines. It is customary to have the paysheets given the men the morning before pay-day. Wallsend is idle because of a gas accumulation in one section, but it is not in the working places. Work is expected to resume at all the mines tomorrow. MINISTER’S STATEMENT (By Telegraph.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Thursday The Minister of Mines, the Hon. P. C. Webb, before leaving for Australia this morning said the miners on the West Coast were going back to work. It had been arranged for them to send a deputation to Wellington to discuss the point at issue with the War Cabinet. Fresh soundings of the Grey bar were taken yesterday morning by the harbour-master, Captain H. Moar, and showed no change either in the depth of water or the configuration of the shoaling. The low water depth remains at 6 ft., but at high water the influence of the spring tides was reflected in a reading of 16ft. 4in. Meanwhile no shipping schedules of coastal vessels for Greymouth have been announced. A long train left Greymouth for Westport on Wednesday evening with 300 tons of Grey district coal for shipment. WATER SUPPLY FAILS WESTPORT, Wednesday Another Buffer coal mine, the Cascade, has stopped work. This mine relies on Cascade Creek for fluming water and the continued hot weather has dried out the creek.
