MR WELLES RESIGNS
MR STETTINIUS SUCCEEDS WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 President Roosevelt has announced that the Under-Secretary of State, Sumner Welles, has resigned. He will be succeeded by Mr .Edward R. Stettinius. Mr Roosevelt added that Mr Welles desired to be relieved of his heavy duties owing to the state of his wife’s health.
| Mr Stettinius, who is 42, previousIly held the position of Lend-Lease Administrator. He resigned his position with United States Steel Corporation in 1940 upon his appointment to the Advisory Committee to the United States Council of National Defence. He became chairman of the War Resources Board and was later connected with the Office of Production Management. Mr Stettinius has been special assistant to Mr Roosevelt since 1941.
