TEACHERS’ SALARIES
RATES HELD INADEQUATE Comparison of secondary school teachers’ salaries with those of other professions and the wages paid for certain unskilled labour was drawn by Mr R. McCaw at the monthly meeting of the Hamilton High School Board of Governors yesterday. Members agreed that if the remuneration were made more attractive the best pupils would be encouraged to take up the teaching profession. The following resolution was carried unanimously:—“That this board is of opinion that the present rates of salaries paid to secondary school teachers are insufficient -and should be revised with a view to their being increased.”
