INSTITUTES AND DIVISIONS ! The Kaipaki Women’s Institute celebratI ed its twelfth birthday recently and in | its honour arranged a social and dance in j the hall, the proceeds of which went to ; augment the soldiers' percel fund. Mrs ; Leckie presided at the piajio: the Misses ! B. Cowie and M. Cunningham were the I Masters of ceremonies. Mrs W. Cunning- | ham had charge of the card tables and j Mesdames A. Cowley and S. Kite were j the door-keepers. During the evening a | birthday cake made by Mrs A. M. Fisher j and iced by Mrs W. Cunningham and I decorated with daffodils (the Institute emblem), was cut. Mrs P. Boyd lit the twelve candles and called upon the three past presidents l Mesdames J. Graham, A. Goodwin and F. Boyd) to extinguish them. A novelty dance w r as won by Miss Jean Scott and partner. Card prizes w r ere won by Mrs F. Cunningham and Mr Woodward. Tauplri Institute After a few' words of welcome by the president, Mrs Williams, the August meeting of the Institute opened with the National Anthem. Mrs McDowall gave a very interesting report on her trip to Gisborne for the Dominion Conference. Mrs Williams gave her garden talk for the month's work and Mrs S. Clarke and Mrs Foley took the Golden Thread. Mrs G. Walters presented Miss Roskrudge with a beautiful bouquet on attaining the age of 91. Tahuna Division. For seven years the Tahuna branch of of the Women's Division has held a pi’i’dmr'c >n ihn school holidays in aid of the Crippled Children's Fund. This H-ar it v\ as on Tuesday, August 24, when children of the Tahuna and IToe--o-Tainui Schools, with a few r visitors from Maungateparu, entertained their parents and friends with pianoforte solos, songs recitations and dances. A bring and buy stall and a sweet stall helped to augment the funds, which benefited to the extent of £ll 15s. Afternoon tea was provided by members of the Division and other friends. Fencourt Institute. The Institute held their August meeting in the Oddfellows’ Hall. Mrs Turnbull (president) presided over a good attendance. After the usual business had been dealt with Mrs Turnbull gave an excellent report of her recent visit to the Gisborne conference. The wandering shilling was w'on by Mrs Sudgen. A dainty afternoon tea w'as served by the hostesses, Mesdames Wattam and Hogan.
