STAFFING OF SPORTS AREA (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Tuesday A generous offer from the American Red Cross to staff the operation of an indoor sports area if the Wei- | lington City Council provides £2OOO, j nr whatever part thereof may be j necessary, for the installation of capital improvements necessary in the old power-house in the city has been accepted by the City Council, j which has set up a committee to go j into matters with the patriotic com- j mittee and the city engineer to de- | cide what is to be done. The old power-house, after going into disuse, was occupied for a num- | ber of years as a skating rink, and I this feature may be retained in con- j verting ihe place for use as a sports j stadium, which besides being a con- j tribution to the civil life of Welling- , ton will provide recreational facili- i ties for all the forces and fill a want that has been greatly felt. j Once the stadium is made ready, t tine American Red Cross desires per- | mission to shoulder the whole res- 1 ponsibility for staffing it with ’ tipined officers and carrying through ; a continuing programme of active I entertainment and competitive sport. !
