COMING ATTACK ON EUROPE WASHINGTON, June 12 The surrender of Pantellaria spells the ultimate and inescapable doom of the Axis,” said the Director of War Information, Mr Elmer Davis, in a broadcast. “However, the invasion of Europe still lies ahead and will entail heavier losses than we have suffered so far.” Europe would probably be attacked at a number of different points simultaneously, he added. The invasion would be preceded by commando raids, to feel out the soft spots. In the recent raid on Lampedusa commandos got ashore and got out again, following which the enemy asserted that a great attack was repulsed. ‘‘You may see a good deal of this,” Mr Davis said. “Every time the British commandos and American rangers go in and come out according to orders the enemy will say that an invasion of Europe has been beaten off.”
