MOVE FOR DECENTRALISATION » MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT WELLINGTON, Tuesday In order to advocate establishment of industries in the secondary towns of the Dominion with a view to re- ; lieving congestion in the cities and increasing the population of the semi-rural areas, 40 members of ; Parliament representing provincial areas have joined themselves into , an industrial decentralisation committee. The formation of the com- ; mittee was the outcome of a suggestion made to members representing : these seats by Mr C. L. Carr ; (Timaru) at the request of the South Canterbury Chamber of Com- ’ merce and the Timaru Borough ! Council. , j A sub-committee of the following 'members has been appointed: Messrs | Carr (chairman), H. J. D. Acland (Temuka), F. L. Frost (New Ply- ! mouth), W. W. C. Denham (Invercargill), H. G. Dickie (Patea), E. P. ' Meachen (Marlborough), J. Hodgens { (Palmerston North), A. F. Moncur ! (Rotorua) and C. W. Boswell (Bay | of Islands). Mr Boswell is secretary. | During the recess members of the committee will collect data and other information as to the possibility of extending industries within their j own areas. They will also take i steps to enlist the help of supporting organisations. This will then be considered at a full meeting of the committee and representations will later be made to the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, and the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, who have already agreed to receive the committee as a deputation.
