COURT-MARTIAL

SITTING AT NGARUAWAHIA A district court-martial was held at Ngaruawahia yesterday, the president of the court being Major E. C. Wooller and other members Captain F. A. Craig and Captain N. V. T. Le Petit. Major N. S. Johnson was judge advocate. The prosecutor was Second-Lieutenant A. R. Hill and the defending officer Lieutenant B. C. Hart. The accused were Privates A. W. Forman, S. Layton, P. Campbell and J. Fearn and Gunner A. A. Zainey. With the exception of Campbell they were charged with desertion and escaping from custody. Campbell was charged solely with being absent without leave. All the others admitted escaping from custody but denied the desertion charge. The finding of the court will be promulgated in due course.
