ENTHUSIASM IN NORTH REMARK ROUSES MAORIS (Mv Telegraph.—J’rpss Association) WHANGAREI, Monday A declaration by the Prime Minister. the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, that Maori troops would be among the first to occupy Tokio caused a spontaneous demonstration at a tribal gathering at Whirinaki yesterday, when 2000 honoured the memory ot Captain Harding Leal', a Ngapuh: chiel'tam who died leading his men in Crete. The assembled people rose as one body, and led by Six Apirana Ngata performed the traditional war haka. ‘‘Kainate, kamate.’ Sir Apirana Ngata said the Maoris j would gladly fill a third Maori battaj lion if needed. They were prej pared to make any sacrifice to win.
