MATAMATA FUNCTION

The grounds of the Matamata Public Hospital presented a gay appearance on Saturday afternoon last when the Voluntary Aid Detachment made their first appeal for funds for the purpose of providing equipment. The smart white uniforms of the nursing staff and the V.A.D’s added a colourful touch, while games and afternoon tea in the nurses’ home and stalls gaily decorated with red, white and blue streamers completed the picturesque scene. Winners of the various competitions were:— Yellow cake, Mr A. E. Wrigley; red cake, Mrs Robinson; collar box, Iris McDonald; Peria dinner, Miss Tompkins; Waharoa dinner, Mansell Newell; taipo, Miss B. Tims; clock golf, Miss M. Montague; croquet, Miss Whale.
