PROTECTING CHILDREN

TRENCHES AT SCHOOLS DIGGING AGAIN ON SATURDAY A further appeal for all ablebodied men to offer their services for the digging of trenches on Saturday in school grounds or property adjacent to the various schools in Hamilton was made by the Chief Warden, Mr H. D. Caro, today. “Many of those who have been able, have responded well to the various appeals for this work and the task of providing sufficient temporary protection for the business area of Hamilton has been nearly completed,” said Mr Caro. “Over the past two Saturdays the response has not been as good as? usual, and there is still a fair amount of digging to be done to ensure the greatest measure of protection possible for the children.” Stressing that there wa§ no time to waste in taking every precaution possible, Mr Caro referred to the great benefit trenches had proved in places already bombed and said that the provision of sufficient trenches for all the children near their schools might mean the saving of many young lives.
