CONSERVING POWER
ECONOMY STILL NECESSARY PROBLEM THIS WINTER Stating that the conservation of | electric power would still be necesI sary this coming winter, the Conj troller of Electricity, Mr F. T. M. Kissel, advised the Hamilton Borough Council last night that the increase being allowed supply authorities was the same as last year, namely 4 per cent above that consumed in the cor- \ responding period of the previous j year. The controller pointed out that the ! conservation of the water in Lake Taupo and the completion of another supply line in the middle of the Island had allowed another slight increase for this coming winter, but essential equipment for new generating plants had not arrived and the position might have to be reviewed. To enable the essential services to be properly conducted there was still an urgent need to see that no power was wasted anywhere. The Hamilton Borough Council’s individual weekly increase for tho coming year was a 6 per cent rise on the supply of the corresponding week last year, said Mr I. Webster, the electrical engineer. Last year the council was granted an 8J per cent increase over the previous year, and this winter the council would have to conduct a continuous campaign to impress on the people the vital need to use the greatest economy in electric power.
