ALLEGED SUBVERSION

LEAFLET DISTRIBUTION (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Wednesday Evidence of finding allegedly subversive leaflets in doorways and telephone boxes in Wellington suburbs was given when Michael Young faced ten charges of breaches of the Public Safety Emergency Regulations. He pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial. Detective S. C. Browne related a conversation with the accused. He agreed with defendant that there was no witness of it. He knew it was physically impossible for Young to have done the distribution personally, but he had accepted responsibility for everything. It was quite possible he might have avoided prosecution by leaving his name off the circulars and by refusing to say anything.
