AT HONGKONG
JAPANESE ADVANCE HALTED ANNIHILATION OF PLATOON (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Dec. 10, 11 a.m.) HONGKONG, Dec. 9 A British communique says: The Hongkong artillery has halted the Japanese advance. A Hongkong communique stated: There was a quiet night. Contact was maintained with the enemy at Taipo and along the new Territories Road, with patrol activity on both sides. No air raids occurred.
A Chinese company of sappers has taken a leading and admirable part in the operation.
A Bren-gun carrier patrol ambushed and annihilated a Japanese platoon in the Territories. An enemy scout came into contact with one of our marines, with disastrous consequences to himself.
