DARING AIRMEN
MAGNIFICENT FIGHT
AUSTRALIANS IN ACTION OPPOSITION TO LANDING (Unltea Tress Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrlg-nt) (Received Dec. 9, 11.15 a.m.) SINGAPORE, Dec. 8 It is revealed that the Royal Australian Air Force Hudson bomber squadrons at Kota Bharu put up a magnificent fight against the first Japanese landing force. They went in against transports mast-head high and dropped bombs with the greatest accuracy and daring. The Japanese used barges and fast motor-launches, but the airmen, who were the first Britishers to fire against the new enemy, strafed the landing craft with machine-guns, causing many casualties among the Japanese. The Hudsons encountered no enemy planes near Kota Bharu and left the enemy ships blazing. An Australian flight-lieutenant reported that the Australian Imperial Force and Indian troops, who are associated with the defence of the aerodrome, are putting up a grand fight, decimating the landing forces with machine-gun fire. The Japanese are reported to be attempting a second landing with larger forces.
