WEDDING

LUGTON—HAWKE TINSEL LAME GOWN ’ The marriage was solemnised at the Methodist Church, Matamata, on the afternoon of Saturday, November 15, between Meryi Aroha, only daughter of Mr and Mrs P. R. Hawke, Hinuera, and Alexander Neil, second son of Mr and Mrs J. L. Lugton, of Walton. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. A. B. Witheford, and Mrs Reeves presided at the organ. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a beautiful gown of off-white reversible tinsel lame. J It featured a high cross-over bodice ' and tight-fitting sleeves, and the skirt fell into a long full train. The hem of the skirt and train were edged with a tiny pleating of chiffon. An embroidered tulle veil mounted on a halo of orange blossom was j worn over the face as the bride i entered the church, and she carried . a bouquet of Christmas lilies, roses and gladioli. The Bridesmaids j In attendance as bridesmaids were ; Miss Constance Lugton, sister of the | bridegroom, Miss Joy Steele, cousin | of the bridegroom, Miss Betty Whit- ! worth, and Miss Phyllis Hawke, niece of the bride. They were dressed alike in frocks of cerise rose. The bodices were of satin and tinsel and featured heart-shaped necklines edged with a small pleating of chiffon. The circular skirts were of chiffon of the same shade. They wore sprays of gladioli and roses in their hair and carried bouquets of the same flowers.

The best man was Mr G. Hawke and the groomsmen were Messrs T. Whitworth, P. Hawke, jun., and R. Hawke. The ushers were Messrs R. Lugton and C. Brocklesby. During the signing of the register, the solo “Because” was sung by Mrs T. Whitworth.

The reception was held in the \ B Hinuera Hall where Mrs Hawke, j 3 mother of the bride, and Mrs Lug- ' fj ton, the bridegroom’s mother, re- IE ceived the guests. Mrs Hawke wore j Rj a carnation-shaded ensemble and a J H black hat and accessories. She wore j fa a shoulder spray of pink flowers. Ifi Mrs Lugton wore a dark teal blue j * ensemble and her shoulder spray was of autumn-shaded flowers. The j ~ bride’s grandmother, Mrs J. Dun- j stan, of Auckland, wore a tropical 8 blue frock with a shoulder spray of autumn-shaded flowers. The bride travelled in a silver grey model frock worn with a large picture hat and a grey and green check coat.
