EUREKA FUNCTION
HEAD TEACHER HONOURED Miss M. Shaw, head teacher of the Eureka School, was the guest-of-honour at a social afternoon held in the hall on Wednesday afternoon. Miss Shaw, who is to be married shortly, was welcomed by Mrs K. Johns, president of the Social Club, on behalf of 'the district. Mr A. Powdrill, chairman of the school committee in an appropriate speech, remarked on Miss Shaw’s popularity and success as a teacher and asked her to accept a brass firescreen with every good wish from the parents and friends. A. Currie, on behalf of the pupils, presented a brass curb and fire boxes to match the screen. Miss D. Dalziel was responsible for a small gift from the past pupils, and Miss Jill Masters presented the guest-of-honour with a posy of violets and a shoulder spray. Miss Shaw replied, and was accorded musical honours.
The ladies of the district served afternoon tea.

Hagen, Elsie Jones, Una Townsend, Blanche Jones, Muriel Jones, Doras Dalziel, E. Hinton, Norma Johns, Kathleen Jones.
CARD EVENING An enjoyable card evening was held in the hall recently, there being a fair attendance. Flag five hundred was played, the successful play-
ers being Mesdames Cresswell and Townsend. The hall competition was won by Mr T. Teehan. Those present were:—Mesdames Harris, Townsend, Cresswell, Johns, K. Inglis, Larsen, Saward. Misses Muriel Hunter, Norma Johns and Una Townsend.
