NOVEL APPEAL
CHILDREN’S CLOTHING PARCELS FOR BRITAIN FIRMS KEEN TO HELP Further appreciative letters have been received by Mr W. H. Paul, secretary of the Waikato Winter Show Association, in connection with the appeal made for contributions of clothing for despatch, through the association in conjunction with the Lady Galway Guild, of parcels of clothing for children in Britain who have suffered by the enemy air raids. A letter from a New Plymouth firm reads: “The parcel of children’s clothing we are forwarding will add to the large collection we are sure you will have in response to your novel appeal. It is an excellent brainwave, to which we are happy to contribute.” An Auckland firm’s manager wrote: “Your appeal, in conjunction with the Lady Galway Guild, for children’s wear cannot be resisted. I am sending you practically all the children’s wear in the shop. I wish it were more, but we simply cannot get this class of goods. May God bless and attend your efforts for the English children. It is such a necessary and worthy cause.” Anxious to Help “On behalf of the staff of our workroom, I write to tell you that we are making trousers for the British children,” wrote the manager of another Auckland firm. “We all think your scheme a wonderful one, and we are anxious to help you. Our staff are very enthusiastic workers for your cause, and I am sure that only for the big patriotic appeal, which they are already assisting in no small way, they would be sending a much larger parcel. However, you can be assured of at least 60 pairs of boys’ knickers.” One of the thrjlls Mr Paul and his staff have experienced occurred when a parcel came to hand from Mrs J. M. Robertson, Mayoress of Westport. It contained a splendid assortment of underwear for children, each article beautifully made and also warm and cosy, and in addition a shawl that would stand comparison with the best of the kind in the show competitions.
Mr Paul is arranging for a display during Show Week of the articles received under this novel scheme of helping the children of Britain.
