TE AWAMUTU NOTES
RELATIVES ENTERTAINED An enjoyable afternoon was held in the Te Awamutu Town Hall by the branch of the Red Cross Society in Te Awamutu and its sub-branches, to entertain relatives of men serving in the forces overseas. The president, Mrs C. G. Downes, welcomed the guests and expressed her wish that the function might be the first of many similar gatherings during the war. similar gatherings during the war. The programme, which was in the hands of Mesdames H. Steer and M. Sullivan, opened with items by the Women’s Institute choir. Mrs J. Bailey gave two recitations which were much appreciated, and Miss C. McLaughlin, of Hamilton, played two enjoyable violin solos. Mrs M. Sullivan was the accompanist. Mrs Myra Booth sang three delightful solos, and the programme concluded with a sketch by Mesdames Steer and Sullivan. Afternoon tea was served by the Paterangi members and many helpers. CARD EVENING The fortnightly card party held at the Red Cross depot, Te Awamutu, was well patronised recently. The five hundred tournament was won by Mrs O’Brien and the bridge by Mrs C. G. Downes.
