COMING-OF-AGE PARTY
MISS H. JOHNSON HONOURED There was a large assembly in the Te Rahtt Hall recently when Mr and Mrs J. A. Johnson, of Ngaroto, entertained a wide circle of friends in honour of their eldest daughter, Miss Hilda Johnson, attaining her majority. Mr Arthur Betts made a very efficient master of ceremonies, and excellent music was provided by Mr L. Spence’s orchestra. Dancing was interspersed with several items, little Betty Adams dancing the seantruibhais to stirring Highland bagpipes played by Mr A. Johnson, who also played several dance extras. The popular magician Man Foo entirely mystified his audience. During supper Mr J. S. Pattison, of Kihikihi, proposed the toast of the guest of the evening, wishing her all health and happiness in the future. After the toast was received with musical honours the presentation of the usual key and the cutting of the beautifully decorated cake with its 21 candles, took place. Mr Johnson replied on behalf of his daughter. The hostess, Mrs J. H. Johnson, received her guests wearing a graceful gown of Venetian rose marocain and Miss Hilda Johnson wore white hailstone muslin.
