TRADERS KEPT BUSY MAINTENANCE OF EXPORT (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright LONDON, Oct. 14 Exports of British rayon goods are running at a high level. Printers in Lancashire are being kept very busy. Prints especially suited to the markets of Latin America are receiving attention at the “Colour, Style and Design Centre,” which has been established in Manchester to assist in the development of the rayon industry. • In August Britain exported £BIB,913 worth of silk and artificial silk yarns and manufactures, or £290,140 more than in the previous August, just before the war. Reports from overseas show that these goods have been arriving with clockwork regularity in various export markets. One of Britain’s export industries which is maintaining its trade in spite of the loss of Continental markets and is thus contributing to Britain’s wartime effort is paint manufacture. Firms in this industry ship overseas paints, varnishes and enamels to the value of about £5,000.000 yearly. They have succeeded in sending abroad during the first half of this year more exports than in peacetime, not only in value, but also in quantity. Paints, varnishes and lacquers made with synthetic resin to resist tropical conditions are in particular demand.
