SEVEN NAMES TO HAND
PATRIOTIC CARNIVAL NOMINATIONS FROM SOUTH The widespread interest in the Waikato district queen carnival to raise patriotic funds is revealed by the fact that 11 areas will nominate queens to contest the carnival. Seven queens have been named, while in other cases the announcement has been delayed. The following queens have been announced:— Hamilton Citizens’, Mrs Colin Taylor. Hamilton Nurses’, Miss S. I. Ryburn. Cambridge, Mrs Mervyn Wells. Raglan, Mrs F. C. Johnstone. Otorohanga, Miss Christina WaltTe Aroha, Mrs W. Burt. Te Kuiti, Sister C. L. Bloxam, matron of the Te Kuiti Hospital In addition there will be a Hamilton country queen, but her name will not be announced until next Tuesday. Huntly will also have a queen who will be chosen at a later date, and in the cases of Te Awamutu and Morrinsville elimination contests will be held among four queens in each case before a candidate is selected to represent the town. The elimination contests in each town will conclude one week before the end of the major contest.
The boundaries of the Raglan and 1 Huntly areas have been adjusted after negotiations completed yesterday. Huntly will now take in the coal mining districts in the vicinity of Huntly, with the exception of the Pukemiro settlement, which will re- | main in the Raglan territory.

Burt, who has been chosen by the Te Aroha branch of j the Returned Soldiers’ Association as | the Te Aroha district’s queen in the | Waikato queen carnival, is the wife j of Sapper W. R. Burt, who is serving ■ overseas with the 19th Army Troop Company, Divisional Engineers. He also saw considerable service during the last war, when he was a signaller 'in the 6th Hauraki Regiment, 16th ; Reinforcements. Mrs Burt has been ; allotted the colours green and gold.
