PETAIN’S EXPLANATION RELATIONS WITH NAZIS NO ENTANGLING ALLIANCES (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) VICHY, Oct. 10 Defining the Vichy Government’s policy, Marshal Petain said Germany had the choice ot a punitive peace or collaboration with France. “ We will not have entangling alliances or servile imitation of any foreign regime,” said the Marshal, “ but we are establishing a national authoritarian State.” Relations with Germany would dominate French policy, Marshal Petain added. After a transitory period of State organisation, industry would return to private enterprise under the authority of the State. It is officially announced that police raided 15 Communist centres in the neighbourhood of Vichy. Twentyeight Communists were arrested, and “ numerous most interesting documents were seized.”
