The damage is estimated at 1,000,000 dollars. President Roosevelt has requested the Red Cross to assist. The injured include children at a school a mile distant.

Aeroplanes flew to and fro, dropping fire-fighting chemicals. The rescuers dashed in and out of the flames, doing their best to carry out those who could be saved.
