CRICKET YEAR
OLD BOYS CLUB DEARTH OF PLAYERS The annual meeting of the Old Boys Cricket Club was held on Wednesday night. As a mark of respect to the memory of the late Dr. M. M. Hockin, a vice-president of the club for many years, members stood in silence. The report, which was adopted, stated that although the club did not annex championship honours, an enjoyable season’s cricket was experienced. The senior B team found difficulty in fielding a team toward the end of the season, on account of players being called upon to fill vacancies in the A team, and holidays also caused a dearth of players. Messrs A. J. Aitken, R. Clough, O. Harding and J. G. West were congratulated on gaining representative honours. Three members, O. Harding, J. Fraser and N. Jones were serving with the third echelon, and J. G. West was training as a pilot in the Royal New Zealand Air Force. While it was desirable that the club should do its utmost to field two teams in the association’s competitions, stated the report, it was difficult to ascertain whether this would be possible. Election of Officers The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Mr W. Fraser; president, Mr H. D. Tait; vice-presidents, Messrs W. J. Aitken, F. G. Seccombe, president of High School Old Boys’ Association; club captain, Mr S. E. Senior; deputy club captain, Mr R. Clough; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr D. Snell; assistant secretary and treasurer, Mr W. Higginson; hon. auditor, Mr L. Hansen; management committee, the team
captains, club captain and secretary, Messrs L. Higginson and A. Crabb; delegates to Waikato Cricket Association, Messrs R. Clough and D. Snell; selection committee, Messrs R. Clough, A. Hope and team captains.
