HOTEL ALTERATIONS
RENOVATION AND ADDITIONS Work on the re-modelling and renovation of the Waikato Hotel, Hamilton East, has been started by a firm of Auckland contractors, Noel Cole, Limited. Situated at the corner of Clyde and Grey Streets, the hotel was built in 1878 by the late Mr Philip Le Quesne and is one of the oldest buildings of its kind in the Waikato. The work is being done to modernise the hotel completely, and to bring it up to present-day requirements.
The work now under way involves the addition of a new wing, filling a section of vacant ground adjoining the hotel and extensive alterations to the Clyde Street side. The main entrance to the building will be shifted from Clyde Street to Grey Street, where the hotel will be continued to a nearby butcher’s shop. Included in the work will be more extensive bar accommodation and additional guest rooms-. New quarters will also be erected for the staff.
