TROTTING TRIALS
CLAUDELANDS ACTIVITY HILLCREST HITS OUT There was restricted activity at Claudelands this morning when a number of candidates claiming engagements at the approaching Auckland meeting were given their semifinal trials. Weather conditions and the track were ideal, the best effort of the morning being by Hillcrest, who hit out resolutely over a mile and a-quarter. Alcazar (Cockbill) led Our McKinney (Vemall), Fortex (Dunn) and Narbada (Parsons) over a mile and a-half in 3.43, their final half-mile being traversed in I.llft. Alcazar is bearing a healthy appearance and executed his work pleasingly.
Hillcrest (Cutts) worked over a mile and a-quarter, negotiating his last mile in 2.23 1-5 and the final half-mile in 1.9 4-5. Hillcrest was always travelling well within himself and should lack little on the score of condition for racing ahead. Meadow King (Moran) worked over a couple of rounds but was not extended.
Guide Peter (Vernall) was doing better than Albertini (Cutts) and Kewpie’s Jewel (Dunn) over a mile and a-quarter, which he ran in 3.8 J, the final half-mile in 1.11. Guide Peter did his work well.
