SWASTIKA HOISTED
CLIMB UP EIFFEL TOWER GERMANS OCCUPY PARIS (Times Air Mail Service) LONDON, July 18 The swastika now flies on the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It was put there, says a Berlin report, by a German sergeant who lived in Paris until last August. As soon as the German troops entered Paris four men, led by the sergeant, hurried to the tower with a huge swastika flag. The lifts were not working, and they had to walk up the 1792 steps to the top of the 984 ft structure. It took them half an hour. According to a Rome report, a German plane landed in the Place de la Concorde, in the heart of Paris, during the occupation by the Nazis. The plane is said to be of a special type used by officers for following troop operations. The report adds that these planes can fly very slowly and land in a small space. The Place de la Concorde is a wide paved space between the Tuileries and the Champs Elysees. There are large fountains and an obelisk in the centre.
