FARMER FINED £ls DRIVING TRUCK WHILE DRUNK (Special to Times.) TE AWAMUTU, Friday Before Messrs W. Jeffery and W. C. Savill, J’s. P., at Te Awamutu this morning Henry Leonard Merrin, farmer, Ngahape, was charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-truck. Defendant, who was represented by Mr S. S. Preston, pleaded guilty. Sergeant S. G. Clist said that the defendant drove a truck along the main road from Kihikihi yesterday, and a car approaching from the direction of Te Kuiti had to be taken on a bank to avoid the truck, which was being driven erratically. Traffic Officer Ferguson, who had followed Merrin, overtook and stopped him. The defendant was under the influence of liquor and was brought to Te Awamutu, where he was examined. Merrin was a married man with five children. Mr Preston pointed out that Merrin was of an excitable temperament and liquor would probably have more effect on him than on the average man. Defendant was fined £ls, ordered to pay £1 Is medical expenses, and his license was cancelled for 12 months. GIRL GUIDES AND BROWNIES WORK FOR RED CROSS At the annual meeting of the Te Awamutu Girl Guides, over which the District Commissioner, Mrs Howe, presided, the annual reports of the acting-captain, Miss M.
