SUB-MATRON FAREWELLED

FUNCTION AT NURSES’ HOME PRESENTATIONS MAD.': A happy function took place recently in the recreation room of the Nurses’ Home at the Waikato Hospital, when a fancy dress party was held by the nursing staff to farewell Sister Ethel Jenkins, sub-matron of the hospital, who is shortly leaving to take up the position of matron of the Tauranga Hospital. The room was bright with bowls of lovely spring flowers, which, together with the bright and original array of fancy costumes worn by the nurses, created a scene of gay festivity.- An excellent programme was contributed by the nurses, the numerous humorous items adding to the enjoyment of the evening. Following the serving of a delicious supper, Miss D. Menzies, lady superintendent, on behalf of the medical and nursing staff, presented Sister Jenkins with a handsome silver tea service and tray. She spoke of the valuable services rendered to the hospital by Sister Jenkins, and of the regret felt by all at her departure. She concluded by extending the good wishes of all to the guest of the evening for her future success and happiness in her new position. Sister Jenkins was also the recipient of a charming teaset from the wards maids. In returning thanks for her delightful gifts, Sister Jenkins spoke of her happy associations at the Waikato Hospital and of the many friendships she had made there.
