.. INCIDENT IN AUSTRALIA BUS CONDUCTOR FINED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) CANBERRA. Aug. 23 Alleged to have raised his hand in a Nazi salute during the playing of the National Anthem at a Canberra picture theatre, Robert John McDowell, 20, a bus conductor, was fined £5 with 12s 6d costs at the Police Court. Sergeant Bailey said it was not the aim of the police to have imprisonment or a heavy fine imposed on McDowell, whom he knew to be of good character, but the police desired to have such practices stopped. McDowell’s solicitor said he was sure his client was not guilty of any disrespect to the King.
