Copyright) LONDON, August 20 The mining of the Baltic from aeroplanes has been systematically carried cMt by the Bomber and Coastal Commands of the Royal Air Force since the opening of the Norwegian campaign. More than 600,000 miles have been flown on this duty and the results, measured both in enemy losses and in the disorganisation of his shipping, have amply justified the constant journeys.
Devised after close consultation between naval and air experts, minelaying expeditions require considerable skill in their execution, and the crews of these machines take great pride in dropping their burdens with the greatest nicety rn the mouths of rivers, across traffic routes and often actually within harbours.
Few reports of the success of these operations ever reach the public, but it can be stated that in two out of the many minefields laid 12 German ships are known to have been sunk and many more damaged.
