RED CROSS SOCIETY
BRANCH AX OKOROIRE At a recent meeting it was decided to form a sub-branch of the Red Cross Society at Okoroire. The following officers were elected:— President, Mrs J. McLaren; secretary, Mrs W. B. Hardwick. Mrs N. L. Higginson was chosen to buy wool for the making of articles. Mrs H. Bellamy is to be in charge of the sewing, and Mrs E. Gubb will be the social organiser. The duties of the branch will be the provision of comforts for refugees and those in necessitous circumstance in Great Britain. The classes of goods required are new or part-worn underwear and footwear ot all descriptions, and men’s and children’s clothing. A special clothes drive has been arranged for the next meeting on August 16. Wool for the knitting of balaclavas, socks and
scarves and material for pyjamas and bandages will be distributed to members each month. Members are asked to state the type of work they feel lilted to do so that the women power of the branch can be speedily and efficiently organised. The membership fee is 2s 6d, payable either to Mrs Hardwick or to Mrs J. McLaren.
